Early Childhood Ministries

Lesson being taught

Here at Corinth, we take our ministry to young children very seriously. We want to provide nurturing care in a safe, loving Christian environment. Parents need to know that their children are being well cared for, that their physical, emotional and spiritual needs are being attended. In every aspect of our early childhood ministries, we want to offer the best care we possibly can. We value your input and partnership in these ministries.

There is a Valentines Celebration in February. The children participate in some type of Mission project. The past two years we have provided gifts to the Pregnancy Care Center. The children bring items, memorize scripture with the words love or heart in them, and we all go bowling.

There is a Children's' Sunday in March. The children participate in the church service by reading scripture ,singing, playing instruments, collecting the offering, and ushering - grades 1-5.

Nursery

The NURSERY is offered for most services and special meetings of Corinth Church. We have one constant person Sunday mornings, Judy Parks. We also have a rotation of two couples each Sunday. This gives us five workers to care for the infants and toddlers every Sunday morning. The rotating couples are:

  • Wendy & Donnie Hollar
  • Glenda & Robert Cameron
  • Heidi & Chris Rice
  • Gwyn & David Watson
  • Lisa Propst & Christine Cox

We have beepers for the parents to carry with them to the church service that vibrate if they are needed in the nursery. This has helped the parents feel secure about leaving their children in the nursery.

On Sunday evenings Christine Cox is the regular nursery worker with rotating helpers. Wednesday evenings we have a group of Lenoir Rhyne College students that take turns helping in the nursery.

Mother's Morning Out

This ministry offers childcare for children aged one to two years. The hours are Tuesday through Thursday 9-12:00. If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling your child in MMO, please contact the office at 328-6196.

Corinth Preschool

The Corinth Preschool, under the leadership of our director Laura Owens, is one of the leading programs in Hickory. Our program offers two classes, one for three year olds and one for four year olds.

The class for three year olds meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 Noon. Children benefit from a variety of learning situations including regular visits from the Science Center. Students may also sign up for Lunch Bunch from Noon - 12:45 P.M., an extended lunch period in which children may bring their lunches.

The class for four year olds meets Monday - Thursday from 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 Noon. Lunch Bunch is offered Tuesday - Thursday. The 4-year olds also enjoy regular visits from the Science Center, field trips, projects, reading readiness, a fun phonetic cheer and many other age-appropriate learning opportunities.

If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling a child in these classes, please contact the church office, 328-6196.

Transitional Kindergarten

Our Transitional Kindergarten serves children who are old enough for Kindergarten, but who are not academically or emotionally ready to take that step. A TK also serves as an advanced opportunity for learning for those who are not old enough for Kindergarten, but academically and emotionally ready for a step beyond preschool. They meet Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 12:45 pm. Please call the office, 328-6196, if you are interested.

All of these Corinth ministries for young children seek to integrate our Christian faith into the learning experience.

Children's Ministries

Kids playing in class

Jesus loves the children and so do we. Quite frankly, we need them. They are the future of our church. It's been exciting week after week to watch our children's ministries grow. Along with the growth, we have the challenge of making sure our ministries are geared to meeting the needs of children today. Today's families are torn over the myriad of activities that vie for their time. Corinth seeks to provide opportunities that will be fun and foundational for their spiritual discipleship. We want to begin the process of teaching our children what the Bible says about what we as Christians believe and why. We want to encourage them in their own responses to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Children need a strong relationship with the Lord to help them make the right choices in a confusing world. In addition to our Sunday School ministry at 9:45 A.M. on Sunday mornings, we offer:

Children's Church

This ministry is offered during the 11:00 A.M. worship service for children ages 3 - Kindergarten. In a creative setting, children learn Bible stories and songs that are geared to their understanding level. Crafts, play time, puppets and refreshments are also a part of this special time.

Corinth Kids Clubs

Part of the Wednesday night program, these groups meet right after the dinner from 6:15 - 7:30 P.M. during the school year. They provide a more informal opportunity for children to build friendships within the church family. Each meeting is full of fun, Bible stories, Scripture memory, skits, crafts and refreshments.

Vacation Bible School

Always a highlight of the year! With themes that come alive in the decorated sets, the Bible stories and characters, the music, the crafts, the recreation, and refreshments, Vacation Bible School is a tremendous concentrated time of Bible teaching and fun!

Children's Easter Celebration

A Corinth tradition for children through grade 5, this is an event planned each year for our children and their friends. Each year plans include an Easter egg hunt, puppet shows, games and prizes, a decorated egg contest and special refreshments. This event is held on the day before Easter (Saturday) each year.

Children's Fall Festival

This is another fun-filled event planned each year for our children. The emphasis of the festival is on good positive safe fun with games, treat bags and special programs.
