Joiing our church family
Membership in Corinth, according to our bylaws, is open to all who profess Jesus Christ as
Savior and Lord. The first step for those who believe God may be leading them to be part
of this church family is to attend the worship services of the church and participate in
the programs of the congregation.
First-time visitors receive a welcome packet of information about the congregation at
the front door.
Those who do not receive this information may contact the church office and receive it by
mail. Visitors who provide the church with their full address and telephone number on the
guest register or friendship pad may also receive a letter from the pastor and a phone
call from a layperson or staff member.
We attempt to respect the wishes of those who wish to visit anonymously and not receive
unwanted communication from the church. We also desire, however, to be helpful to those
who indicate they are new in the community or looking for a church home, or those who
express interest in receiving additional information. Visitors who receive unwanted
communication in any form from the church should contact the pastor.
As visitors become acquainted with the people of the congregation and the life of the
church, they may desire any of the following:
- more printed information about the church (see a list of printed brochures and booklets below)
- our weekly church newsletter, The Corinthian
- a call or visit from the pastor
-
an opportunity to attend the pastor's class, a four-week Sunday School class usually offered in March,
June, September, and December which introduces interested persons to the church and denomination
To express interest in any of the above, please call the church office (328-6196) or use a yellow "From the Pew
to the Pulpit" card in the back of the church pew when you attend a worship service. You can also express your
interest via our web page, "Feedback."
During the Pastor's Class, participants will have an opportunity to express interest in formally joining the
membership of the church. Those who have not previously met with the pastor personally will have the opportunity
to do so. Membership applications are received and acted on by the Spiritual Council. Four times each year the
church receives new members in the 11:00 service, according to the order of worship in The Hymnal Supplement.
Those who have not previously been baptized are baptized when they are received into membership.
New member are assigned "shepherds" from among existing church members for their first year of membership, helping
them to achieve three goals necessary for a sense of belonging:
- make friends
- become involved in a smaller unit of fellowship in the church family, and
- find a place of ministry in or through the congregation.
